California Dreaming

California Dreaming

It’s only taken 35 years for a smart and sober Federal Judge to knock down the ridiculous Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989. As reported by several media outlets, U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez found in the case of Miller v. Bonta that the California ban violated the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

I’ve never understood the mindset of individuals that seek to destroy a part of our Constitution through arbitrary means. There is a process to amend the Constitution; it’s well documented. If a group believes so strongly about something, start the process to amend the Constitution. However, do not seek to redline a piece of the document that guarantees all of us our freedoms. That is a slippery slope.

How about the 1st Amendment? If a group does not like how some people can state their opinion, should we make laws to censor them and sequester their opinions? I think not. Don’t come after one amendment without putting the rest at risk.

California has been in dire need of getting their collective heads screwed on straight. As a native Californian I am thrilled at Judge Benitez’s ruling. Thank you Judge! Let’s keep the Constitution alive and well.
